Individual Volunteer Opportunities

at the Seattle House

It gives us great joy to welcome back volunteers to the House. We appreciate your patience and support throughout the last two years, and we are eager to see you in person! As we begin this process, we are implementing new safety measures to ensure the well-being of our visitors and families. If you are interested in learning more about individual volunteering, read through our volunteer requirements. You will need to attend an introduction meeting prior to filling out an application.  Please fill out the introduction form at the bottom of the page.

At this time we are looking to fill the following positions:

Front Deskvols

Front desk volunteers are the first face of the House. Whether that be for visitors, families living here or new families checking in. There is comfort in being greeted by friendly faces who are here to help. As the hub of the House, the front desk offers volunteers an opportunity to interact with and support our families. Our available shifts are all p.m. shifts: Monday 3-6, Wednesday 3-6:00, Thursday 6-9, Friday 3-6, Saturday 3-6:00, and Sunday 3-6:00.

Meal Helper

Sometimes there is nothing more comforting than food. We can’t take away all the stress our families face, but we can make sure a warm and nutritious meal is waiting for them when they need it. These volunteers will be working alongside our culinary team to cook meals when we don’t have one scheduled and breakfast items for our breakfast buffet. These positions are 9-12:00 or 9:30-12:30 Monday through Friday

Breakfast Buffet

Each morning we put out a breakfast buffet for our families. The buffet allows our families an opportunity to grab something to eat on their way to the hospital or enables them to sit down for a meal while not losing valuable time making extra stops. We started the breakfast buffet during COVID but soon realized that we wanted to continue this service to our families. The buffet needs to be set up at 8:00 am during the week and 9:30 on the weekend. The opening right now is Thursday.

Van Drivers

Many of our families arrive at the House from hundreds of miles away– even sometimes from different states and without a car to drive. Our Van Drivers take our families shopping when needed and help support the House by picking up essential items and donations. COVID has changed our order of operations, but not the need to do it! Our Van Drivers need to be at least 21 years old and have a good driving record and insurance.

Kitchen  – House  A

These volunteers are the key to keeping our Kitchens clean and organized. This position calls for someone who enjoys cleaning, enjoys working around families and has a keen eye for what needs to get done. All of us love to come home to a clean kitchen and our families feel the same. Openings are Monday, Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Family Resource Center

The FRC is the place where families come to check out movies, games and gaming consoles. This is a great volunteer position for teens 16 and older, young teens accompanied by an adult and couples who want to volunteer together. This is a customer service position and you’re in charge of opening the center, ensuring it is organized and clean, and checking items in and out. We’re looking for an outgoing individual. Shifts available are all p.m. shifts: 3:00-6:00 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and Saturday.

House Pantry Organizer (no openings)pantry

Having the power to cook a familiar meal can make all the difference in making an unfamiliar environment feel like home. The House Pantry Organizer is responsible for assisting the facilities team in managing the organization of the food storage and the restocking of the family pantry. This position is vital to our food program because volunteers are in charge of making sure families have a variety of foods to choose from.  No shifts available.

Events Volunteer

If you are interested in volunteering for a special event such as our annual RMHC Auction or Hockey Challenge, please contact Development at (206) 838-0613.

If you are interested in any of the above positions, you must attend an introduction meeting before filling out an application. Please fill out the introduction form below to set up your intro meeting!
