For 40 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) has been a lifeline for families facing life-threatening medical diagnoses, providing them with stability, hope and support during their greatest times of need. The story of Sophie and her family illustrates just how crucial our organization is for families in medical crisis.

When Sophie became incredibly sick at just two months old, her parents, Katie and Jon, had to rush her to a hospital far from their remote village in Alaska. The devastating news of her failing liver and the need for a life-saving organ transplant in far-away Seattle thrust the Burrows family into a whirlwind of uncertainty and fear. By offering a place to stay close to Seattle Children’s Hospital and a supportive community, RMHC emerged as a beacon of stability and comfort for the family.

The support provided by RMHC went beyond just a place to stay; it encompassed essential resources like baby items for quickly growing Sophie and daily meals. Maybe even more important for the Burrows was the RMHC community.

“The other families staying here, the volunteers, the staff – they understand what we are going through. RMHC has anticipated our needs in this moment and provided for us. It means the world,” says Kate, Sophie’s mother.

When you donate to RMHC, you help families like the Burrows receive the support they need during their medical journey. Whether it’s covering the cost of one night’s stay or contributing in any way possible, your generosity makes a profound impact on families facing medical crises. Together, we can continue to light the way for families on their journey to hope, health, and happiness.

As RMHC celebrates its 40th anniversary, we reflect on four decades of unwavering commitment to families with seriously ill children. From our modest beginnings as a 20-room House to now offering 105 residence rooms in Seattle and 34 rooms in Anchorage, RMHC has been a steadfast companion for families across different medical journeys. The organization’s support programs, including meals, essential supplies, and activities, have provided solace and strength to countless families, offering them a home away from home while their child receives medical treatment.

We are incredibly proud and excited to be celebrating our 40th anniversary this year. Please read our press release to learn more and stay tuned for special events throughout the year to celebrate this important milestone.
